Cravings
-Turns out, chocolate wasn’t the only thing Mello craved the taste of.

Wheeze
-Matt’s tragically premature ‘smoker’s cough’ never failed to cause a twinge in the back of Mello’s mind, always making him wince in uncertainty.

High
-Mello always smelled of chocolate, a smell that would send Matt’s head reeling reach time he was close enough to smell it.

Bi
-Matt had always considered himself bisexual, since he never found any of the girls at Wammy’s cute, but once he caught his first glimpse of a very wet Mello wrapped in just a towel after showering, he knew for sure that girls no longer held any place on his agenda.

Uncertainty
-Mello had never been sure which was higher on Matt’s roster: video games or nicotine, but he was thankful to know that he was higher up on the list than both of those.

Cards
-There wasn’t much else to do on Sundays but sprawl on the living room floor together and watch Near stack huge towers of playing cards that were taller than he was.

Black
-Matt had never thought anything special about Mello’s wardrobe until the blonde had discovered the powers of revealing leather.

Reflection
-Mello would swear that he’d seen Bloody Mary’s reflection in the mirror, he’d spread the story left and right through the orphanage the day after Halloween, but Matt knew that the blonde’s horrified yell had just been a ruse to get him to hold his hand.

Curtains
-They would sit side by side on Matt’s bed, gazing out the window in rapture at the snow falling past the pastel blue curtains.

Snow
-Watching snow fall got boring real easily, or so they discovered before racing each other downstairs to find their coats.

Breakneck
-Mello was the faster of the two, usually, but Matt knew exactly how to stop him dead in his tracks.

Throttle
-When Matt dragged the protesting blonde with him into a racing simulator at the arcade, he had to stifle a yell of disbelief as Mello beat him by four places.

Gore
-Mello sighed contentedly, watching the look on the redhead’s face change from an irritated frown to an excited, maniac grin as his character decapitated the nearest zombie with a spray of blood.

Psycho
-Matt never seemed to find it odd that Mello would laugh hysterically while watching Mission Impossible, but only at the parts where buildings went up in flames.

Heave
-As Matt pulled back Mello’s hair, he winced, listening to the blonde retch. “I told you it had been in the fridge forEVER…” He sighed, hanging onto the stray locks with one hand and rubbing Mello’s back with the other.

Mello spat into the toilet, uttering a hoarse, “Shut up…” before he suddenly lunged forward, grabbing the toilet lid, and heaved.

Chauffer
-Matt was acutely aware of his physical strength, especially when he carted Mello around on his back and obeyed the other’s directions to a T, and could even understand the directions through the blonde’s hysterical giggles.

Aspirin
-The first night they did the ‘deed’, Mello was so sore the next morning that he lived on the couch all day with his apologetic lover, his chocolate, the television, and a bottle of painkillers.

Glass
-The puddle was brown, and their hand-in-hand reflections were clearly visible on the smooth surface. A look was exchanged, as was a devious smirk, before Mello’s black tennis shoe shattered the glass.

First
-The first feathery brush of Matt’s lips and the redhead’s arms tight around him was decidedly the only thing in the world sweeter than chocolate.

Brown
-Mello had never been particularly been fond of the color, but once he and Matt were standing, facing each other, lacing fingers, he gazed into Matt’s beautiful, deep eyes, and decided then and there that it was his favorite color.

Baby
-Mello was definitely fond of nicknames, seeing as he’d called Matt every pet name in the book… ‘Love, sexy, handsome, Mattie,’, and the like, but Matt was pleasantly surprised to see Mello blush to his roots when Matt had pulled the blonde into his arms after a night of punishment separation and had purred, “I missed you, baby!”

Disgust
-“No, I am not kissing you.”
“Aw, c’mon, Mel!”
“No!”
“Why?!”
“You taste like smoke, dammit! Now go brush your friggin’ teeth!”

Three
-Sometimes Near was okay to be around, especially when the three of them had an actual intellectual conversation, but thankfully the albino knew to take his cue to leave the two alone when Matt was in the mood.

Obsession
-Mello had three addictions. Chocolate, the color black, and the noises Matt made when Mello traced his tongue over his ear and neck.

Soft
-“Are you using a new conditioner?”
“Uh… yeah, why?”
“Nothing… your hair just feels wonderful…”

Microwave
-Tomatoes do not belong inside them, as the duo found out one boring summer evening.

Arson
-Cackling, Mello readily set fire to a pile of dead weeds, Matt crouching slightly above him with a grin on his face. God, the blonde was so twisted.

Sex
-Matt’s eyes open up when he peaks, a habit Mello tried hard to break for a while, but gave up when he realized that locking eyes with the redhead in their moment of passion is somehow twice as gratifying as simply the feeling.

Doggie
-The collar was supposed to be just a joke, but Matt wore it religiously before Roger finally ordered him to take it off after two months.

Iniquitous
-Matt practically imploded when Mello told him that he could have one of two things for his birthday: a day of playing video games in peace, or a day being locked in their bedroom, sans pants.

Impatience
-“Matt… are you done yet?”
“Just a sec, babe, I just wanna beat this guy…”
“…”
“Damn…”
“…”
“…”
“Hey… Mattie… Look what I’m not wearing!”
“Wha-… okay, I’m done playing… ho God…”

Interruptions
-It was incredibly hard to be alone together, considering they were constantly under fire from OTHER orphans.

Polite
-Mello had asked Matt to turn away so he could change, however, as the redhead turned around, he couldn’t miss the look of disappointment on his face.

River
-Laughing and shouting, the two boys chased a frog doggedly through the icy shallows, stumbling every so often and plunging their feet deeper into the water.

Cherry
-“I d-don’t care w-what-” Matt coughed. “-that label says,” He sniffed. “That stuff is NOT cherry flavored.”

Mello gagged as he received his dose of cold medicine, only furthering Matt’s allegations.

Heaven
-Mello gazed skyward through the darkened window, one arm around his redhead and the other hand gently teasing his rosary beads, thanking God for sending him his angel at last.

Hell
-All we did was ‘accidentally’ hit one of the housemaids with a slipper that we were tossing from one end of the hallway to the other… this doesn’t seem fair! Matt thought, gazing at Mello’s side of the bed. It was an ACCIDENT…Roger didn’t have to put Mello in Near’s room for the night… damn him…

Beyond
-Matt wasn’t sure how he felt about heaven and hell, but when Mello first whispered those soft three words, he was sure there that he was living something much better than heaven.

Heat
-Matt finally tore his sweaty shirt over his head and threw it over one shoulder, gasping in relief as his bare chest was freed from the stuffy shirt. “Mell,” He glanced around, “Hand me a- Mello? Yo! Helloooo? You okay? What are you staring at?”

Toy
-The three of them were geniuses, though they each had their own little toys to keep them occupied. Near had his various nick-nacks, Matt had his video games, and Mello… well, when Matt WASN’T playing video games… had a redhead.

Silence
-It was an unwritten rule at Wammy’s House Orphanage, taken into heart especially by Matt and Mello: no matter what’s happening, unless someone is dying or on fire, one never, EVER talked when Monty Python was on the television.

Commercials
-However, as the blonde squirmed his way on top of Matt and pinned him to the couch, it was permitted to do what one wished during a commercial break.

Tease
-“Hey, Mello.”
“Hmm?”
“Guess what?”
“What?”
“I’m not wearing boxers.”
“…”

Sky
-Sprawled on their backs on the grass, eyes shut, hands clasped. The grass was wet underneath them, thunderclouds rolled overhead, and a light pattering of rain and wind swept them. Yes… it was perfect.

Hurt
-Mello had a feeling that his and Matt’s relationship was taking a drastic change when, one particular evening, he had been reminded yet again of Near’s superiority over him and had been reduced yet again to tears. He had sat facing the wall in his room, on his bed, trying not to sob. He hadn’t heard the door open, nor heard the soft footsteps of his roommate behind him, but one thing he definitely felt was Matt’s arms snaking around his waist and pulling him into a hug from behind.

Feeling
-Mello returned the favor a short time later when Matt had succeeded in breaking the controller to his playstation, and when the redhead was on the verge of angry tears, Mello had wrapped his arms around his shoulders and snuggled into his neck, muttering, “Calm down, Matt… you’ve got a spare, remember?”

Contentment
-It was possible that simply the feeling of their hands intertwined was better than kissing… touch meant everything to Mello.

Truth
-“Matt, I want to tell you something.”
“Hm?”
“I… I think I have a crush on you.”
“What…?”
“You heard me… I like you. A lot.”
And suddenly, the television found it necessary to chime in: “GAME OVER, MORTAL! UAHAHAHA!”

Alone
-Nothing hurt more than the absence of Matt’s warm body curled up beside him in bed, especially knowing that Matt was just down the hallway, trapped in a separate room again.

Dammit, Roger.

Love
-Matt and Mello both know this: if there is one thing in the world they desire from their existence, it is not fame, it is not power, it is not genius: it is each other.
I'm sure some of you guys have seen something like this.

Well, this is my spin-off on it.

^___^

I might turn a few of these into oneshots.

My favorite one is 'Heaven'... -dreamy sigh-
